You may feel mild pressure or soreness for the first day or two after switching to a new set of aligners — this is normal and a sign the aligners are working. Most patients describe it as noticeable but manageable, significantly less discomfort than traditional braces. Over-the-counter pain relievers can help during the initial adjustment period.
Yes — that's one of Invisalign's biggest advantages. Simply remove your aligners before eating or drinking anything other than plain water. You can enjoy all your favorite foods without restrictions. Just remember to brush and rinse before putting your aligners back in.
We recommend removing your aligners when drinking hot, sugary, or staining beverages like coffee, tea, wine, or soda. These can stain the aligners and trap liquid against your teeth. Plain water is always fine. Since aligners need to be worn 20–22 hours per day, simply plan your beverage time around meals when aligners are already out.
There may be a slight lisp or speech adjustment during the first few days as your tongue adapts to the aligners. Most patients find their speech returns to normal within a week. Reading aloud at home during the first few days can speed up the adjustment significantly.
When your treatment is complete, Dr. Sudha will fit you with custom Vivera retainers — the same material as Invisalign aligners — to maintain your results. Retainers are worn nightly long-term. Without a retainer, teeth naturally drift back over time. We'll provide a detailed retainer care plan at your final appointment.
